[Video] Three Months of Relief and Recovery in Kumamoto
October 28 marks three months since the 6.8 magnitude earthquake devastated communities in Japan’s Kumamoto Prefecture.
Peace Winds responders arrived on the ground and began to support search-and-rescue and emergency relief within hours of the disaster. Now, our teams continue to manage four evacuation centers, and they are helping families recover as they transition into temporary housing.
Over the last three months, Peace Winds’ work in Kumamoto has encompassed:
- Immediate search-and-rescue support
- Emergency medical care and relief supplies
- At-home care for vulnerable survivors
- Ensuring relief supplies reach those who need them
- Furnishing evacuees’ temporary housing units
- Support for families with pets
- Long-term evacuation center management
In the critical months ahead, we will be providing all Kumamoto residents moving into temporary housing with appliances and continuing to help families navigate the logistical challenges that come with displacement. We will also support psychosocial care and community rebuilding activities to help survivors as they heal after the trauma of losing their homes and loved ones. Your support will help us as we continue supporting communities in Kumamoto.
