Kapalua Golf Maui Community Fund Aids Storm Recovery Efforts

Thanks to a generous donation made in honor of Kapalua Golf, Peace Winds is regranting $50,000 to three community organizations engaged in relief and recovery efforts on Maui after the Kona Low storms devastated Hawaii this spring.

The March 2026 Kona storms brought record rainfall to Hawaii, dumping more than 60 inches of rain in areas and leading to devastating flooding in West Maui, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu. There was extensive damage to homes, business, and public infrastructure, in many cases hurting communities that were already struggling to recover from the deadly 2023 fires. In response, TY Management’s Tadashi Yanai contributed to create the Kapalua Golf Maui Community Fund at Peace Winds. Funding from this has been pledged to support three nonprofit organizations working on various aspects of relief and recovery.

  • Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) has been providing housing assistance and other support for Lahaina-area disaster survivors after the 2023 fires, and it has extended its programming to include families affected by the flooding in West Maui. Funds are being deployed to provide emergency cash assistance for affected residents, short-term housing aid, damage assessments, case management support, and minor repairs to help families safely return to their homes.

  • Moloka‘i Cares is connecting families whose homes have been damaged with skilled labor, while helping them with mud and debris clean-up and assisting in getting them the supplies they need – including materials for roofing, drywall, and flooring repairs.

  • The Maui Humane Society is aiding families who have pets and have been affected by the flooding. This includes providing emergency supplies, veterinary care, and direct support for displaced pet owners as well as supporting essential weather-proofing and repairs to ensure MHS facilities remain a secure haven for animals during future disasters.
