Morocco Earthquake Emergency Relief

Timeframe: 2023-Present

On September 8, 2023 a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Morocco. It was the most powerful in over 120 years, leaving thousands of people dead or injured and thousands of homes and buildings damaged or destroyed. The epicenter of the quake is located in a mountainous region, about 43 miles outside of Marrakesh. Peace Winds has been working with local partners to aid survivors living in these hard-to-access areas.

Peace Winds staff members were dispatched shortly following the disaster to assess the damage and provide residents with emergency supplies. These included water and solar panels to provide electricity, a much-needed asset for earthquake survivors living in tents in remote villages. Peace Winds continues to work with local partners to provide support to students and pets who were affected by this disaster.
