Disaster and Crisis Response in Afghanistan

Timeframe: 2001-Present

Peace Winds has been supporting communities affected by war and violence in Afghanistan since 2001. Programs have encompassed infrastructure rehabilitation for schools and roads, livelihood support for women, and access to clean water. Currently, Peace Winds is collaborating with local partners to increase education opportunities for children as well as food security for vulnerable families.

Peace Winds also responded after a series of earthquakes and aftershocks in western Afghanistan killed more than 2,000 people and left hundreds of homes and buildings destroyed in October 2023. In collaboration with local partners, Peace Winds provided emergency support including food, essential supplies, and direct cash assistance to affected communities near the epicenter in Herat Province.
