Emergency Aid for Persons Displaced by the War in Syria

Following the onset of Syria’s civil war in 2011, Peace Winds has been working with local NGOs in central and southern Syria to provide emergency humanitarian aid. This includes repairs to homes and schools, distribution of food and winter clothing, and distribution of hygiene kits in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. 

In addition to supporting displaced people living in Syria, Peace Winds provides assistance to refugees returning home to Syria after fleeing to neighboring countries like Iraq. Although the fighting has subsided in the home communities of many returnees, often their homes have been destroyed by the war. Due to widespread destruction and disruption of markets, many Syrians remain in financial distress, unable to afford repairs to their homes or even basic necessities such as food and clothing. Peace Winds is working with local NGOs in Syria, providing more than $1 million in support over the last year to repair destroyed homes and to provide clothing for children, something often requested by returning refugees.
