Disaster Relief and Recovery in the United States

Peace Winds partners with local organizations to support emergency relief and long-term recovery in the wake of major disasters in the United States.
When wildfires devastated Maui in 2023 and Los Angeles in 2025, Peace Winds teams were dispatched to support first responders. Staff worked with partner organizations and local leaders to identify gaps in aid and distribute emergency relief supplies–including food, water, hygiene items, baby items, and pet supplies–to community groups in need.
We also provide financial support to innovative local groups helping communities rebuild in the months and years that follow. Support for long-term recovery has encompassed:
- Psychosocial support and grief care for disaster responders, children, and other survivors
- Case management and legal services for families navigating assistance programs, insurance appeals, and legal issues
- Community-building and in-kind support for evacuees transitioning from evacuation centers to temporary housing
