Peace Winds Provides Water Supply Systems in Myanmar (Karen Province)
Peace Winds continues to build and repair water supply facilities to secure safe drinking water in the Karen province of Myanmar. Since 2013, Peace Winds has constructed and repaired 98 water facilities in 80 area villages.
Peace Winds evaluates the area layout and area needs and constructs community water supply facilities. Construction of each well can take one to two months. Peace Winds provides support before and after construction, including operations training so residents can manage the finished facilities. In each well project, Peace Winds partners with a local committee to oversee the maintenance of the wells.
Following construction and repair of water facilities, Peace Winds provides training on basic maintenance methods, and works with trainees to address any new problems with the wells. Community workshops provide training and build a network of well maintenance.
In addition to maintenance and repair, Peace Winds hosts hygiene and sanitation education workshops for the community.
