Peace Winds focusing on recovery needs of flood evacuees. Help welcomed.
Record heat continues to scorch Japan and those still recovering from the flood disaster that struck the country in early July. The extreme temperatures are expected to continue through August, only worsening the evacuees’ shelter life and clean-up efforts. Peace Winds provides water and fans to evacuees to keep them cool and hydrated as the heat continues.
Peace Winds has improved the living situation at the centers by constructing privacy screens with the help of renowned architect Shigeru Ban, which enhances the evacuees privacy and dignity. Also Peace Winds has established an animal day care center for pet owners so their owners can go to work or clean up their homes. Peace Winds has three mobile clinics with on-site staff to assist and treat patients for various ailments, including heat-illness.
Peace Winds is helping the sheltered evacuees as they return to their flooded homes with mud-out volunteer help, power washers, transport, and tools. Some less fortunate evacuees who have lost their homes are remaining in the shelters for indefinite periods. Peace Winds is monitoring closely the well-being of all evacuees, providing programs, mobile clinics, and counseling. Peace Winds hosted programs include both educational and recreational engagement activities and off-site trips which ease the burden of shelter living.
Peace Winds welcomes your continued support to the evacuees in the clean-up recovery efforts.
