Türkiye: Life After the Earthquakes
Meet Eren, a Turkish earthquake survivor who has been working as an interpreter at Peace Winds’ temporary medical clinic in Hatay Province. Immediately after the earthquakes struck, Eren joined a local volunteer group to help those who were injured. His mother is an English teacher, so Eren says he has been learning English from a young age and is happy to use his skills to help people in the wake of the disaster.
“I consider myself lucky,” Eren says because he hasn’t lost any family members. However, Eren lost two friends in the earthquake as well as his car and his home. He says these are all things he took for granted until he lost them in just one day. “I don’t want anything special,” Eren says now. “I just want to be happy.”
Although Peace Winds’ time running the temporary health clinic recently came to an end, our teams will continue to assign representatives of ARROWS, the airborne search-and-rescue squad, to the site. Peace Winds will also continue to deliver donations of food, daily necessities, and prioritize vulnerable survivors such as the elderly and disabled.
