Disaster Response in Türkiye
On February 6, 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Türkiye. A second earthquake and subsequent aftershocks destroyed homes and buildings throughout eastern Türkiye and parts of Syria, and more than 50,000 people were killed.
Immediately following the disaster, Peace Winds dispatched a team of disaster responders who aided search-and-rescue efforts and provided emergency food and supplies. The Peace Winds team also operated a field clinic near the epicenter in Gaziantep. For several weeks following the earthquake, they treated survivors in desperate need of medical care.
Peace Winds continues working with local partner organizations to support long-term recovery in Türkiye. Programs encompass grief care, psychosocial support, and community-building activities to help children and their families rebuild.
