Supporting the People of Sri Lanka
Peace Winds has supported emergency relief and agriculture development in Sri Lanka since the country’s 26-year-long civil war ended in 2009. Peace Winds provided emergency food and supplies to families and individuals who were displaced by the war, and we also provided emergency relief when an economic crisis devastated the country in April 2022.
Currently, Peace Winds is supporting farmers in Sri Lanka through the promotion of organic agriculture. This has proven especially critical in the wake of the economic crisis at a time when prices for traditional fertilizer and pesticides are too expensive for many people. Local farmers attend training sessions to learn organic farming techniques, including how to make their own organic fertilizers and pesticides. Peace Winds also helps farmers promote their produce at local farmers markets so they can reach customers directly and earn a fair price for their products.
