Timeframe: 2023-Present

On September 8, 2023 a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck Morocco. It was the most powerful in more than 120 years, leaving thousands of people dead or injured and thousands of homes and buildings damaged or destroyed. The epicenter of the earthquake struck a mountainous region, about 43 miles outside of Marrakesh.

A Peace Winds team responded shortly afterward to assess the damage and aid survivors in hard-to-reach areas. They distributed emergency supplies, including clean water and solar panels, which were crucial in supplying electricity for residents of remote villages. Peace Winds has continued to work with local partners to support emergency relief and long-term recovery for survivors. We have also supported the rescue and care of shelter animals who were affected by this disaster.
