Medical Care for Refugees in Bangladesh
In 2017, thousands of Rohingya people, an ethnic minority group, fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh after armed attacks began against the group in Rakhine State. Peace Winds responded immediately, working with local partners to provide emergency medical treatment in the refugee camps.
In January 2018, Peace Winds worked with a local medical NGO, Dhaka Community Hospital Trust, to open a medical clinic at Camp 14, one of the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar in southeastern Bangladesh. The clinic provides basic medical services, including 24/7 childbirth assistance, to approximately 34,000 displaced people living in the camp and to the Bangladeshi people in the surrounding area. The clinic celebrated its seventh anniversary in 2025, and the clinic and staff continue to receive high praise from patients for their quality of care, effective communication, and trustworthiness within the community.
