Hygiene Support for South Sudanese Refugees in Ethiopia
Timeframe: 2019-Present
About 54,000 South Sudanese refugees live in the Kure refugee camp in Gambella, western Ethiopia, 80 percent of whom are women and children. Since 2019, Peace Winds has been working to improve hygiene in the camps through hygiene awareness activities such as the construction of household toilets and hand-washing campaigns.
Refugees also build their skills by participating in toilet construction and hygiene awareness activities. This approach supports self-reliance as refugees’ time in the camp goes on and gives them skills that can be used to find work in the event that they return home to South Sudan.
