Peace Winds Restarts Water Supply in Gaza City

In October, Israeli military “clearing operations” in the northern Gaza Strip pushed many people to Gaza City. Evacuation shelters are overcrowded, making it increasingly difficult to maintain hygienic living conditions, and the shortage of essential supplies, including water, is severe. To help, on November 1, Peace Winds managed to resume fresh water delivery to evacuation centers in Gaza City for the first time in two weeks. Teams arranged the distribution of safe and clean water from a tanker truck to a series of shelters around the city.

Several weeks before, after Peace Winds concluded the last round of water distribution at 14 schools that are now serving as shelters, the old water points were overwhelmed with people seeking additional water. However, these could not provide safe water due to a lack of fuel to run their pumps and chemicals to purify the water. During this time, water was supplied by city hall, but its quality was poor, raising health concerns among the residents.

Additionally, Israeli air strikes directly hit two evacuation shelters supported by Peace Winds. The attacks killed 16 people and injured 11 others, including evacuees who were managing shelter operations. As the Israeli military continues its indiscriminate bombing, Peace Winds staff continue working tirelessly to provide aid to displaced Gazans alongside local water supply companies and evacuation center coordinators.
