Peace Winds Responds to Flooding in Sri Lanka
A southwest monsoon brought heavy rainfall in late May and early June, triggering massive flooding and landslides in 15 of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka–affecting about 630,000 people. The floods and landslides destroyed or damaged nearly 20,000 houses and temporarily displaced 73,560 people, with Galle, Kalutara, Matara, and Rathnapura being the worst-hit districts.
Peace Winds Japan (PWJ) with its local partner Asia Pacific Alliance have teamed up in two of the severely affected areas–Kalutara and Ratnapura–providing emergency relief items to help people regain stability in their daily lives.
This project is funded by Japan Platform and PWJ supporters. Please join our effort to help the flood-affected communities in Sri Lanka.
