International Day of the Girl 2018–Providing relief and promoting education and training for girls.

October 11 is International Day of the Girl.  The United Nations and Peace Winds America recognize the needs of girls around the world, highlighting the challenges they face and promoting empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

Countless women and girls deeply suffer during conflict and disaster.  Women and girls are 14 times more likely to die or be injured during natural disasters than men and boys.   During conflict refugees face more obstacles and risks including violence, death, and limited educational and employment opportunities.  Women are most susceptible to these risks, and girls even more so. When it comes to education, employment, skills training, and livelihood opportunities, women and girls are often overlooked. This lack of focus leaves girls vulnerable for trafficking, violence, and poverty.

This year the UN has selected the theme With Her: A Skilled Girlforce to highlight school and training programs for girls.  Access to education is paramount to the success of girls. Education advances their skills so girls can join the workforce and contribute to their families and communities.

Peace Winds focuses on integrating women and girls throughout our programs, whether disaster recovery or refugee support.  Peace Winds seeks to empower women and girls through education and job training.  Presently in the Middle East, Peace Winds is providing shelters and housing for families, while building schools and enrolling girls in schools and livelihood training.

The dividend of girl change agents is manifold. Please join Peace Winds integrate girls into disaster response and conflict assistance recovery.
