Help Deliver Food and Water to Displaced Palestinians

Water distribution at evacuation centers in Gaza

Last week, UN experts officially declared a famine in Gaza. More than 640,000 people across Gaza–about one third of the population–are suffering the most severe form of hunger, and 132,000 children are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition by next June.

Water shortages are also becoming more and more serious. Reportedly, 82% of Gaza’s water supply systems, sewage systems, and treatment plants have been destroyed. This means that on top of starvation, 96% of households do not have enough water for drinking, bathing, or cooking. Many families must rely on trucks for what little water they can access.

Since October 2023, Peace Winds has been working with local farmers and suppliers to deliver food and clean water to Palestinians sheltering in evacuation centers. But recently, military blockades have caused the price of fuel and water to skyrocket, putting our life-sustaining work at risk. We are urgently requesting donations so we can continue delivering water and food to families in need.

Recipients of Peace Winds’ water distribution have expressed relief at not having to risk leaving the relative safety of the evacuation centers to search for water elsewhere.

One evacuation center representative told us, “Israel’s military attacks have intensified, and we constantly receive evacuation orders, but most people have nowhere else to go. It goes without saying that the people receiving water are calling for this support to continue. Shelter managers and water suppliers are also renewing their sense of commitment, determined to somehow deliver safe water to the people.”

Even a single day without food and water distribution adds to the hardship that families are already enduring. We are so grateful for the generosity that you have shown Gaza already, and we ask for your continued support so that we can carry out our work as planned, without interruptions.
