Peace Winds Trains Palestinian Youth in Gaza

Since 2007, Gaza has been under a blockade, restricting the movement of people and goods.  About 40 percent of the population in the Gaza Strip is under 29 years old.  They face challenges joining the workforce due to instability and limited resources caused by the blockade.

Among the young people, employment becomes highly competitive and uncertain.  The current unemployment rate for ages 20 to 29 is over 60 percent.  These potential workers have little hope.

Since 2016, Peace Winds has supported activities to create employment opportunities for young people.  Peace Winds coordinates and dispatches young workers to local civic organizations, where they help support grassroots activities in education, healthcare, and agriculture.  Through Peace Winds, participants receive short-term employment and gain valuable knowledge and skills through training and on-the-ground experience.  This experience provides them with income and improves their chances of finding permanent employment.  More than 1,200 young workers have participated in the program since 2016.

This Peace Winds program provides employment and training in an area plagued by uncertainty.   Currently Peace Winds is planning a long-term vocational training project focusing on opportunities in healthcare.
