Help Peace Winds Deliver Emergency Aid for Displaced People in Lebanon
As war escalates in the Middle East, civilians are paying the price. The UN reports that 570 people have been killed in Lebanon, more than 1,400 have been injured, and 750,000 have been forced to flee their homes. This, the UN humanitarian head says, “is a moment of grave peril for Lebanon, and for the region…. Too many warning lights are flashing.”
Peace Winds immediately began working with partner organizations to coordinate aid distribution for displaced people in Lebanon. Although many are living in evacuation shelters, others are forced to sleep outdoors where the temperatures are plummeting at night.
Peace Winds and our local partners have distributed emergency supplies, including blankets and clothing, to some 500 people sheltering in Baabda in western Lebanon. The support of our donors has allowed us to provide immediate assistance to those who fled their homes with only the clothes on their backs.
“I want people to remember that beneath the attacks they see on TV are homes and schools and ordinary people living normal lives, and these people are now having to flee to protect their lives,” urges Rika Yamamoto, head of Peace Winds’ overseas operations, who is busy coordinating aid in Lebanon.
Attacks and evacuation orders are ongoing, and the UN warns that “mass displacement is accelerating” in Lebanon. Your donations will allow us to continue to provide emergency aid to affected families there.
