Urgent need for additional funds to support Japan flood survivors
Japan Platform (JPF), the emergency humanitarian aid organization, which funds Japanese NGOs including Peace Winds Japan, has requested more funds from Japanese individuals, businesses, and the government to assist flood victims. JPF’s original Japan Flood Relief funding goal was 300 million yen. Now after further review of the crisis, JPF is seeking 600 million yen ($5.4 million) to aid recovery efforts and damage clean-up from the floods.
Peace Winds is also seeking additional support from outside Japan, targeting funds to aid the thousands of people still living in evacuation centers across damaged areas. Outside support is needed for the clean-up process and to maintain shelter operations for evacuees who must remain long-term.
Peace Winds is assisting the management of three evacuation centers. Recently Peace Winds established three mobile medical clinics that travel throughout affected areas to assist evacuation centers offering medical treatment. More funding is needed to continue clinic operations and ensure the clinics remain adequately stocked for treatments.
Peace Winds also established a pet daycare center in Kurashiki. Pet owners can drop off their animals while they work or clean up their homes. Peace Winds is looking to expand their vet clinic and the pet care facilities and hire more staff.
Peace Winds is also aiding children to attend school and remain engaged in activities to ease the stress of shelter life. Additional funds are needed to provide school supplies for children who lost their school items and to host after-school activities and field trips.
