Dr. Charles Aanenson | Chief Executive Officer
Chuck founded Peace Winds America in 2008. He brings over 35 years of experience in the field of international aid and development. His experience in disaster mitigation extends from designing and implementing disaster readiness and response training programs to coordinating on-site relief. Chuck earned his PhD in public administration from Indiana University.
Penny Carothers | Dev. & Program Support Specialist
Penny supports fundraising and programs at PWA. Penny brings a background in non-profit management and communication, having served both as a board and staff member with several international non-profits based in the Seattle area. She holds an M.P.A. from the University of Washington Evans School of Public Policy and Governance, with a concentration in international relief and development, and a B.A. in history from Reed College.
Patrick Hurley | Program Officer
Patrick is an attorney and graduated with honors from The George Washington University Law School, where he focused on international human rights law. He has worked internationally with various Human Rights NGOs as well as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Southeast Asia. He has also worked and trained in the field of emergency management with FEMA and the American Red Cross.
Rumi Naito | Program Officer
Rumi brings leadership in fundraising program development. Rumi has worked for arts organizations such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Bach Collegium Japan where she grew the individual and corporate annual giving programs by 110 percent and 200 percent. Rumi holds a B.A. in business from the University of Oregon with a concentration in international business management and cross-cultural communications.
Lauren Holstein | Research & Program Support Intern
As a current MPA student at the University of Washington Evans School of Public Policy & Governance, Lauren is most interested in international development and public/private partnerships. Prior to working with Peace Winds America, Lauren worked with a sustainable development organization in Uganda, a community based organization in South Seattle that seeks to provide education programs for recently resettled refugees, and as an ESL teacher in South Korea and France.
Mari Poorman | Project Officer
Mari Poorman joined Peace Winds America as a Project Officer in 2010. She brings extensive private sector experience in international project management and business development, with a focus on the U.S. and Japan. Mari has implemented and managed various relief and recovery and development programs in Japan, the Philippines, Myanmar, Nepal, Timor and Haiti, partnering with NGOs and local governments. She has served and led civil-military humanitarian assistance programs partnering the U.S. and Japan (Palau and Japan) and with the UN and NATO in the Balkans (Macedonia). She holds a B.S. in public relations from the University of Utah. Mari is presently working on joint projects of Peace Winds Japan and Peace Winds America.
